This place is special to me because it is such a lovely, charming, and weird location in South Korea with a wonderful history. Imsil introduced cheese to the Korean diet in 1958, when a Belgian man moved to the region. He raised goats and made his own cheese, and the governor at the time requested that he teach the skill to others in the community. Imsil Cheese Theme Park provides a place to have fun, learn about cheese, and make it yourself!

Jeju Island is a beautiful island filled with history, nature and pop culture to the south of South Korea.  Small but dense enough in things to experience that there is something to do no matter the time frame.  Partake in the island's unique citrus fruit and decadent black pork, hike along it's many Olle trails or visit the Unesco site "Sunrise Peak", or visit one of its many unique museums, dedicated to a number of interesting subjects. Jeju island is rich in history and brimming with adventure!

中文: 新版《時局圖》, 可能繪於1900年至1904年之間。作者謝纘泰用以表達19世紀末當時西方列強勢力佔侵中國地區的概況。 
English: Newer version of THE SITUATION IN THE FAR EAST (時局圖). Its author (Tse Tsan-tai, 1872-1939) depicted the western powers encroaching on China at the end of the nineteenth century in symbolic form. At the left "to be clear at a glance" (一目了然), at the right, "self-evident" (不言而喻). The bear representing Russia is intruding from the north, the bulldog head with a lion body representing the United Kingdom is in south China, with its tail around the Shantung peninsula (Wehai english colony was the seat of the British bulldog in the first version of the cartoon), the Gallic frog, is in southeast Asia, with an inscription "Fashoda", in reference to Fashoda Incident opposing Britain and France in Africa. The frog has the Hainan Island in its right hand, in reference to Guangzhouwan, and part of the Sichuan in its left hand. The bald eagle representing the United States is approaching from the Philippines (the U.S. had already invaded the Philippines at this time). On the eagle is written "Blood is thicker than water", a reference to U.S. Navy Commodore Josiah Tattnall's saying in 1859. The symbolic Sun behind Japan spreads its rays across Korea onto China, while Japan fishes for Taiwan. Qing Amban is on Tibet and chinese teacher on Mongolia and Xinjiang with turco-mongol man. Some other European countries, following Prussia, are waiting to invade China at the bottom of the map. 
Français : Nouvelle édition de « Carte de la situation politique » (時局圖), avec sur le coté gauche, « qu'on saisit à première vue » (一目了然) et à droite, « Cela va sans dire » (不言而喻). L'auteur (Tse Tsan-tai, 1872-1939) l'utilise pour exprimer l'invasion des puissances occidentale à la fin du XIXe siècle. L'ours représente la Russie au Nord, Le bulldog britannique (dessiné avec un corps de lion dont la queue entoure la Péninsule du Shandong, où se situait la colonie Britannique de Weihai), le Royaume-Uni au Sud-Est, la grenouille (vision britannique de la France), avec l'inscription Fashoda (en référence à la Crise de Fachoda, fashoda incident en anglais, opposant Britanniques et Français en Afrique), au Sud, venant d'Indochine (alors colonie française). La grenouille tient de la main droite l'île de Hainan, en référence à la possession de Kouang-Tchéou-Wan et la main gauche sur une partie du Sichuan. La Pygargue représente les États-Unis au dessus des Philippines qu'ils avaient à cette époque envahi. Le soleil du Japon caché sous derrière le pays envoie quelques rayons vers un fumeur d'opium chinois, allongé au milieu de la carte, tout en tenant d'un lasso Taïwan. Un Amban des Qing est au Tibet et un enseignant chinois, est sur la zone des turco-mongols (appelés Tartares par les européens) de Mongolie et du Xinjiang. Far East Asia (1900-1904)

A very interesting 1853 (Kaei 6) Japanese world map by Suido Nakajima. Presented on a cylindrical projection, this map marks a significant advancement in Japanese globular cartography and a far more sophisticated adaptation of western cartographic standards than is evidenced in most earlier Japanese world maps. No longer reliant on 17th century Dutch maps acquired via the Dutch East India Company’s (VOC) trade concession in Nagasaki, the Japanese have here abandoned many of the antiquated cartographic notions, such as an insular California, which were common in Japanese maps of the previous decade. Japanese cartographers may have been motivated to update their traditional world view in the light of the explosion of cartographic ideas associated with the arrival in Edo Harbor of the American Commodore Matthew Perry in the same year this map was published. As a whole this map offers a sophisticated cartographic presentation of the world embracing the most up to date cartographic knowledge available in the mid-19th century. Though adapted to the Japanese printing style, this map presents a generally accurate world view. British Claims to Washington and British Columbia are noted in North America, Australia and the Pacific are accurately rendered, as are the discoveries of Vitus Bering and James Cook in the Arctic, and Africa is clearly pre-Speke. The disputed East Sea / Sea of Japan / Sea of Korea is here labeled as the Sea of Joseon (Korea), which some scholars suggests indicates Japanese acceptance of the “Sea of Korea” convention. Four hemispheres appear in the lower left quadrant, from left, the southern, northern, eastern, and western. All are on a stereographic projection. The map is printed on woodblock and hand colored in vivid, blues, greens, oranges, and yellows. A fine example of the redefined Japanese cartography style of the later Tokugawa period.

Railways of Japan (1927)

This is the English edition of the Polish Atlas Swiata. This massive atlas (weighing nearly 5.5 kilograms and containing 48 square meters of maps) is of high cartographic and aesthetic quality, and provides a rich assortment of thematic (over 400) as well as hundreds of physical and political maps. Includes pictures of the flag and a synopsis for each country. Liberal yet tasteful and effective use of tinted colors, especially for topography and bathymetry. Rich use of symbolism creatively conveys the data in a clear manner. Many maps of urban areas. Printed on beige paper. Printed in Warsaw, Poland. Book No. 08 001958 7. Post and screw binding coupled with frequent use of fold-out maps eliminates any problem with the gutter.

Bellin was an important maker of charts for the French Depot de la Marine. He was born in Paris in 1703 and educated as an engineer. He produced many important charts and published them individually and in compilations. The Neptune Francais was published in 1753 and the Hydrographie Francaise in 1756. His largest and most comprehensive work is the Petit Atlas Maritime with 581 charts (our copy has 582, including the rare "Carte Reduite des Decouvertes des Russe Entre L'Asie et L'Amerique.") that cover the coasts and important port cities of the known world. The Petit Atlas Maritime is probably the best compilation of plans of maritime towns and harbors of its time. Bellin died in Versailles in 1772. According to Tooley, Bellin issued an earlier version of this atlas in 1763 titled Petit Atlas Francois. The Duc de Choiseul provided financial support for the publication of the atlas. J. Arrivet is listed as engraver on the chart index pages and may also have engraved the charts themselves.
