下田は古くから東西海上交通の重要な場所でした。ここ旧下田町（旧町と呼ぶ）は、古くから風待ちの港としてたくさんの船が立ち寄り、いろいろな人々を受け入れながら、漁業や商業で発展した湊町です。また、幕末にペリー提督率いる米国海軍が黒船で来航し、日本開国の舞台として脚光を浴びた町でもあります。
　旧町を散策すると、そんな歴史や文化を感じさせるものをたくさん見つけることができます。新しい、古い、なつかしい、色々なものが混在している旧町をぶらり気ままに歩いてみましょう！

Under the invitation and support of the Saga Prefecture Film Commission, the Malaysian drama "From Saga, With Love", which was filmed in Saga Prefecture in 2023, became a huge hit in Malaysia. Although the drama has not been available in Japan, with the release of season 2 in Malaysia this autumn, the Japanese-subtitled version of "From Saga With Love" will be streamed for free in Japan on "ABEMA," the new TV of the future that has surpassed 28 million weekly viewers, starting from Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
