Pan de Muerto, or “Bread of the Dead”, is a sweet bread that is baked during the Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, celebrated in Mexico on November 1st and 2nd.

Setsubun (節分) is a festival held on February 2, 3 or 4, one day before the start of spring according to the Japanese lunar calendar🌸 Around this day in 2018, right from Kyoto-U, we walked to Yoshida Shrine, the most famous place to celebrate Setsubun @ Kyoto👹 We also visited Yasaka Shrine which famous for soybean-throwing tradition during Setsubun but sadly we missed it. The celebration on those shrines were very crowded. Understandably, this year, it has been cancelled😷

This is my first attempt in making an illustrated map. So far I enjoyed making it and 100% would do again!!!

Kyoto Setsubun Experience

A map of my hometown, Uzice, showing some of the interesting buildings there. I wanted to show the diversity of architecture, ranging from very traditional, oriental buildings up to Yugoslavian brutalism. And we have funny names for all those buildings! Even the MoMa museum had an exhibition and our Hotel was one of the exhibited pieces. We have a Hydropower plant, which is the first electrical plant made according to Tesla's principles of an alternating current in Europe and second in the world, only five years after the first of its kind on the river Niagara in America. Also I've put only one food illustration, our traditional dish called 'Komplet lepinja" that can be only bought in Uzice, and that is one of the things that the Uzice is known for. I hope that this map would spark an interest in you that you find out more about this city.

I drew the Gion Festival map of my house, such as the limited gourmet, the mountain foot that I want to check, and the enjoyment of Emeizan at midnight.

My recommendations for Sakimatsuri during Kyoto's Gion Matsuri

Printed black illustrations on paper. Published in 1892 by Maeoka Kyūgorō. The upper center portion and lower right contain a brief history.
While continuing in the tradition of old maps from the Edo era, the road to Koyasan is presented in shortened form, and the settlement of Koyasan itself is depicted in the center. Art in Hanoi is a map of my favourite creative places and projects in the incredible capital of Vietnam from a year of living there as an expat from the UK in 2018 - 19. This place is special to me because 2 years ago me and my husband got there for our honeymoon. It was the first time we travelled to another country, visited a museum, ate burgers, drank coffee, walked through the Hyde Park - as husband and wife.
It was the best week we could've imagined. We visited a lot of museums, ate traditional dishes, laughed a lot and simply had the best time of our life.

It is the birthplace of 'Takasago', which is used as a generic term for a congratulatory term, such as 'Takasago no seki' for the seat where the bride and groom are seated, and there are many traditions relating to the tying of the knot from ancient times. In recent years, it has also attracted attention as the birthplace of Miyamoto Musashi. The city is full of history, knots and miracles, such as the Ishi no Hoden, one of the three strangest power stones in Japan.

Takasago City of Marriage Map

Unusual and elegant design incorporating Aztec symbols. Emily Edwards was a noted artist of the period. Intended in part as a functional representation of the Mexico City Transit and Power System, the map is a remarkable work of historical and cultural value, celebrated in modern times as one of the most important images of post Revolution Mexico City. While Edwards intended to faithfully represent the tram and lighting system, embellished by historical images of the City, the map also incorporates Mexican cultural traditions, superimposed over an image of Cuauhtémoc, the final Aztec ruler and one of the most iconic Mexican historical images.

This digital map introduces sightseeing facilities, restaurants, and accommodations in Koyasan and the foot area of Wakayama Prefecture. The region consists of one city and three towns, all of which feature facilities constituting World Heritage sites. A very interesting 1853 (Kaei 6) Japanese world map by Suido Nakajima. Presented on a cylindrical projection, this map marks a significant advancement in Japanese globular cartography and a far more sophisticated adaptation of western cartographic standards than is evidenced in most earlier Japanese world maps. No longer reliant on 17th century Dutch maps acquired via the Dutch East India Company’s (VOC) trade concession in Nagasaki, the Japanese have here abandoned many of the antiquated cartographic notions, such as an insular California, which were common in Japanese maps of the previous decade. Japanese cartographers may have been motivated to update their traditional world view in the light of the explosion of cartographic ideas associated with the arrival in Edo Harbor of the American Commodore Matthew Perry in the same year this map was published. As a whole this map offers a sophisticated cartographic presentation of the world embracing the most up to date cartographic knowledge available in the mid-19th century. Though adapted to the Japanese printing style, this map presents a generally accurate world view. British Claims to Washington and British Columbia are noted in North America, Australia and the Pacific are accurately rendered, as are the discoveries of Vitus Bering and James Cook in the Arctic, and Africa is clearly pre-Speke. The disputed East Sea / Sea of Japan / Sea of Korea is here labeled as the Sea of Joseon (Korea), which some scholars suggests indicates Japanese acceptance of the “Sea of Korea” convention. Four hemispheres appear in the lower left quadrant, from left, the southern, northern, eastern, and western. All are on a stereographic projection. The map is printed on woodblock and hand colored in vivid, blues, greens, oranges, and yellows. A fine example of the redefined Japanese cartography style of the later Tokugawa period.

Pictorial view of the world. Originally issued uncolored, color was added later. Map is projected as a view from space and details the world roughly from the Equator to the North Pole and from California to India. Flora, fauna, historic events, cultural artifacts, and indigenous people are represented pictorially. The Sargasso Sea is illustrated in the middle of the Atlantic. Includes inset views illustrate places and moments of special interest including mirages in the Pacific, a ship burning at sea, Niagara Falls, Chicago, oil wells, gold mining, Hindu cremation, Chinese Junks, Tuareg warriors, an avalanche, etc. also includes lists of the nations and maritime flags. Shows sketches of some 79 individuals in 'traditional costumes'. To either side of the main view are flags of major nations, sailing ships, volcanoes, and other imagery. Include an ice free polar sea north of Greenland labeled 'Mer Libre?' No doubt this is a nod to hopes that a Northwest Passage might still exist. Union Pacific and Trans-Atlantic shipping lanes are noted. The achievements of various explorers are noted in both Africa and the Arctic.

A beautiful example of A. J. Johnson’s 1866 map of Florida. This rare map offers a fascinating snapshot of this secessionist state shortly following the close of the American Civil War. Map shows the state in full with color coding according to county. Cartographically this map is
probably based on U.S. Land Survey charts commissioned in the mid-1850s. Makes numerous references to American Indian tribes and to forts and battles sites related to the Seminole Wars. Notes Lake
Okeechobee, the Everglades, the Indian Hunting Grounds, Biscayne Bay,
Tampa Bay and the Okefenokee Swamp. Also shows the course of a proposed canal route leading from Tampa to the Atlantic. The Arredondo Grant is included just to the west of St. Augustine. The Arredondo Grant was a layover of the Spanish Land Grant program, which bequeathed it to a powerful Spanish merchant - Arredondo. With incredible difficulty and protest, the land grants were dissolved when Florida became part of the United States. Nonetheless the Arredondo Grand proved tenacious appearing on mappings of this region well into the late 19th century. An inset map in the lower left hand quadrant details the Florida Keys.
Features the fretwork style border common to Johnson’s atlas work from 1863 to 1869. Published by A. J. Johnson and Ward as plate number 43 in the 1866 edition of Johnson’s New Illustrated Family Atlas. This is the last edition of the Johnson Atlas to bear the Johnson and Ward imprint.

The map is filled with vignettes in each of the states and provinces of Canada, showing Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck engaged in activities reflective of the tourism or indigenous commerce or industry of the state. 

Around borders there are comic strip panels from the Travel Tykes Weekly Magazine or from service stations are numbered & were to be cut out & pasted in proper place on the map. On verso shows Mickey and Donald at the Fair, featuring vignettes on the major attractions of the Golden Gate Exposition.
