    1883: A large pond built by digging land provided as a firebreak. The pond was named Hyou-tan-ike" because it was shaped like a "Hyou-tan" (a gourd).

    1908: A large movie theater with a seating capacity of 1,800. The first theater to become a corporate company in Japan.

    1907: The theater where "Asakusa Opera" was played. Later on in the years, the theater becomes a strip theater changing its name to "Furansu-za". Currently, the theater is split into two, "To-yo-kan" and "Engei-hall", which both hold comedy shows.
