    Historical Lecture Performances at a Registered Tangible Cultural Property The main house, built in 1900 and registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan, features a gabled roof, wooden shingles, and a two-story wooden structure in the traditional townscape style of Kurayoshi. Additionally, the detached building, connected by a corridor, was constructed in 1930. It mirrors the craftsmanship of the main house, utilizing high-quality materials throughout and preserving the refined Japanese aesthetic of the early Showa era. Visitors can enjoy historical lecture performances (kōdan) recounting tales related to Kurayoshi, including the stories of 'The Great Merchant Yodoya,' 'The Eight Wise Men of Satomi,' and 'Oe Iwayoriko.' These performances are held daily, except on Thursdays when the facility is closed.     A Lodging Facility Built for the Imperial Visit to San’in Constructed in 1904 by local carpenter Ichihira Yamada, this lodging facility was built to host the Crown Prince (later Emperor Taisho) during his visit to the San’in region in 1907. It was designated as a 'Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan' in 2011 and selected as one of the '100 Architectural Treasures of Tottori Prefecture' in 1996. The interior features include a reception room, sleeping quarters, a bath, and a dressing room. Note: The building is not open to the public; only the exterior can be viewed. It is located within Utsubuki Park, one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots.     A Renowned Soto Zen Temple Founded in 1605 The Burial Site of Tadataka Satomi and His Eight Retainers Within the temple grounds lies the burial site of Tadataka Satomi, the last lord of Tateyama Castle in Awa Province (present-day Chiba Prefecture) and the inspiration for the novel Nanso Satomi Hakkenden. He is interred alongside his eight loyal retainers. Tadataka passed away at the young age of 29 but lived in Kurayoshi for eight years. During his time here, he is said to have donated the Sansai Ryoka Kokkamonban (a decorative plate with a tri-colored glaze and floral pattern), which remains a treasured artifact of the temple.     The Oldest Townhouse Architecture Remaining in Kurayoshi City The Makita family, known by their trade name 'Yodoya,' was a prominent merchant family in Kurayoshi and is believed to have had close ties with the renowned wealthy merchants of Osaka, also called 'Yodoya,' famous for Yodoyabashi. The Kurayoshi Yodoya (Former Makita Residence) consists of a main house and an annex. The main house, built in 1760 (Hōreki 10), is the oldest surviving townhouse in Kurayoshi. The annex, built in the sukiya-style, features a shoin-zukuri design and reflects the prosperity of Kurayoshi’s merchants. Additionally, daily historical lecture performances titled 'The Light and Shadow of Yodoya' are held at the Toyota Residence.
