    It served as a hiding place for Katsura Kogoro, a samurai from Choshu, while he waited for Lord Mori Yoshichika's procession to Kyoto. With local support, he discreetly avoided shogunate officials. After a meeting in Nakatsugawa, Choshu decided to back the imperial restoration and end the shogunate. This place shares a hidden story of the Meiji era changes.

    This is the monument "Maeda Seison Birthplace. Seison was active as a central figure in Japanese painting during the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods. He left many famous paintings, mainly historical paintings, but also flower-and-bird and landscape paintings. He was a professor at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, restored the mural paintings of Horyuji Temple, copied the mural paintings of Takamatsuzuka burial mound, and also served as a painting instructor for the Empress of the Showa Emperor. He passed away in 1977 at the age of 92.
