It is a long-established Japanese-style restaurant that has been in business since the middle of the Edo period and was visited twice by Emperor Meiji in 1878. Okuma Shigenobu, Inoue Kaoru, and Yamaoka Tesshu accompanied the Emperor, as well as many other great figures visited the restaurant, including Itagaki Taisuke, Shibusawa Eiichi, and Togo Heihachiro. Its hall is designated as a National Tangible Cultural Property, and the garden has been selected as one of the 100 beautiful scenery of Shiga. Inspired by lord Ii Naotaka, the “nidaime udon” is a luxurious udon with thinly sliced Omi beef meat on top of the hot udon with plenty of red miso-flavored broth poured over the noodles. Mt. Watamuki Sightseeing
Address It constitutes one of the peaks of the Suzuka mountain range and spreads out the most to the Shiga Prefecture side. It is a famous mountain in Omi that has enshrined a deity since ancient times and has been loved by local people. It is known for its beautiful changing scenery in each of the seasons and its graceful appearance to be an easy-to-climb mountain. The path through beech forests surrounding the branch peaks of Mt. Ryuo and Mt. Mizunashi is an attractive spot with many wild birds. To the west, you can see Omi Basin below you and Mt. Hiei and Hira mountain ranges beyond Lake Biwa, which gives you a magnificent feeling.

Umoregi-no-ya Sightseeing

Azuchi Castle Ruins Sightseeing

Azuchi at 198 meters above sea level, where Oda Nobunaga resided. They have been designated as a National Special Historic Site. Azuchi Castle took about three years from 1576 to complete by Oda Nobunaga. It was built to mark the start of the Azuchi–Momoyama period (1573-1603). However, it burnt down during the Honnoji Incident, in which the Oda Nobunaga was assassinated, and only the stone walls remain. It is said that Azuchi Castle was the first full-fledged castle tower built in Japan, leaving its mark on history as a famous castle site.

It played a major role in the birth and development of the Omi merchants and the prosperity of the town, making the town as busy as Otsu in Omi Province in the late Edo period. Along the moat, white-walled storehouses and old houses stand side by side, showing how the town looked in those glamorous days.

Yume Kyobashi Castle Street Sightseeing
AddressHonmachi 1-chome and 2-chome, Hikone City, Shiga Prefecture Official Website Kyobashi was a bridge connecting the second section, where samurai of 1,000 koku or more resided, and the third section, where middle or lower-class samurai, merchants, and craftsmen resided. The street from Kyobashi to Honmachi is called Honmachi-dori street, and only traces of the Edo period (1603-1868) remained in the town layout and the streets with white walls and latticed windows. However, the area along Honmachi-dori street has been rebuilt as an "old new town" with new buildings that make use of the quality of the merchant houses with the sense of the Edo period known as Yume Kyobashi.
