Bakery Cafe Yukinko Bakery & Cafe, with its pastel-colored storefront and black cat sign, is a popular bakery that opened in 2009. The shop offers a wide variety of bread, including chunky bagels, French bread, yakisoba bread, bean-jam buns, and other bread perfect for snacks, plus a lunch box. As well as take-out, you can enjoy bread and coffee inside the warm and inviting store. They also sell coffee from Toyotomi Coffee and tea bags from MUSICA TEA in Kobe to go with the delicious bread, which makes great gifts or souvenirs. Yuki, the owner, is so determined that she wouldn't serve bread she's not happy with. When you try it, you will be convinced. It's irresistible! The cream-filled baguette, a winter-only menu item, is so delicious that it melts in your mouth. The limited monthly quiche is also very tempting, with lots of filling. The seasonal bread are not to be missed, making me look forward to my next visit. I'm also curious to try out the Issho bread, which is baked with a birthday or other message engraved. Bakery Bread of the day The boulangerie MONTPAIN opened in 2007. The store's name, "my bread (MONT PAIN)" in French, is named after the owner's mentor. The most popular products among regular customers are French bread and white bread. There are three types of white bread: the standard "Pain de mie," "hard toast," and "daily bread," which is one of the reasons why customers want to visit the shop repeatedly. The selection of other types of plain bread is extensive and sometimes sold out by midday, so it is best to go in the morning to buy your bread. From seasonal bread to daily bread, there's always a wonderful experience, no matter when you visit! You can enjoy the flavors of the four seasons. During Valentine's, they have chocolate bread; in the summer, they have refreshing fruit bread and light bread made with edamame beans. In the fall, during the Halloween season, they even have bread made with pumpkins grown in the owner's hometown. Wow, looks delicious. I want to try them all! When the seasons change, I might ponder, "is it time that bread becomes available?" Bakery Coffee Cake The shop started its business as a bakery about 40 years ago. With its long history, "Bakery Tsuneyama" is loved by people of all ages. Here you will see not only regular customers but also many young families. There is also an eating space with a small counter where customers can relax and enjoy coffee made with beans from Ogawa Coffee in Kyoto. The "Bread and Cake" logo printed on the display window will make many people smile. Bakery Tsuneyama is a bakery with a warm exterior that takes you back. Many regular customers say, " we have to get the bread from here," because the bakery follows the tradition of its founder, who believed that they should make bread like no other. The owner's wife also names the bread uniquely with playful wording, such as Mitame-dori (as it looks) sausage rolls and Madeleine Maiden madeleines. Bakery Wild yeast bread The owner, who used to work in Tokyo baking yeast bread, returned to his hometown to open this bakery specializing in natural cultured yeast. The bread has a soft and gentle texture, overturning the "hard and heavy" image that is often associated with natural yeast bread. The store's popular signature item is the " Mocchiri" (soft and squishy) series, which has a unique S-shape and soft texture. Chocolate, grape, red bean paste, and other varieties are available. Many customers also ask for focaccia these days. I used to think freshly baked bread was the best. But the bread I bought at "copan" tastes better the next day than freshly baked. Focaccia, for example, is crispy if you eat it on the same day but soft and squishy if you eat it the next day. It's a different experience depending on when you eat it. The same goes for French bread: "Is this the bread from the second day?" I was surprised that the bread was more moister the next day than the first. Surely, this is why copan's bread is a favorite for many visitors outside. They offer freshly baked bread filled with flavor as you bite into it while carefully growing three types of natural yeast. In addition to their signature bagels, the bread with fillings made from Naruto Kintoki (a type of sweet potato) and other locally grown fruits is also delicious. Tokushima has clean air, fresh water and delicious vegetables. At this store, you can enjoy what Tokushima has to offer. It is one of those stores you want to boast about to people outside Tokushima. The bagels are soft, chewy, and very satisfying! They go well with coffee, a perfect combination for a picnic on a sunny day. The sandwiches filled with locally picked vegetables also looked delicious. Coffee Coffee beans for sale Baked sweets The café opened in 2003 in a renovated warehouse equipped with a roasting machine. Currently, it is a specialty store that only sells coffee beans, with no food or beverages available. This is because they wanted to offer a variety of information about coffee instead, from where it's produced to how to brew coffee and many other coffee-related topics. When purchasing beans, customers can also take a small coffee lesson, which includes a lecture on making coffee " easy and fun" or making a unique cup of coffee, depending on their wishes. Many newbies come to the store because they heard from someone that "the store teaches you about coffee." On the second floor, coffee-related books and photos of coffee-producing regions are displayed, making it look like you are in a museum. It is truly a store run by coffee lovers and for coffee lovers. If you are new to coffee and want to enjoy a good cup at home but are wondering whether you can find the coffee you like, you should visit here. At Toyotomi Coffee, you can taste coffee before buying them. They even brew an extra coffee for those who buy the beans. What a generous store! Coffee Bean Specialty Store Tokushima Brazilian Coffee was established in 1932. It was the first shop in Tokushima to introduce in-house roasting and has continued to support Tokushima's coffee culture over the years while wholesaling coffee beans to numerous coffee shops. One of its directly managed stores is located in Kagoyamachi and sells mainly coffee beans and coffee utensils. The most popular coffee is the "Special Blend." This blend is a longtime favorite with a mild, rich flavor and a pleasant aftertaste. The slightly richer, medium roast "Royal Blend" is also popular, with a subtle acidity that replaces the sweetness and a lingering aftertaste. A wide range of roasts, from the classic Tokushima dark roast to the trendy light roast, is available here so you can enjoy drinking at home with a higher quality coffee. This shop is reliable and well-known for continuously providing delicious coffee from Tokushima with its special roasting process. Did you recognize there's COFFEE written on the exterior of the store? Wow, you're right. The coffee containers they have in the store are also cool and make you want to look at every corner of the store. Cafe Lunch Bar Founded in 1998, LUCKY CAFE got its name from a comedy movie of the same name. The store has a retro but futuristic look with large round windows. The store's most popular item is the sandwich, a toast with various filling ingredients. It is hearty, using bread purchased from the bakery "Ougiya" in Tokushima. It can also be made half-size, so it is perfect for when you are a little hungry. At lunchtime, the restaurant gets busy with office workers from nearby businesses. What was originally a DJ bar, now owned by a music lover, turned into LUCKY CAFE. The owner runs the shop as a hideaway. In the evenings, there are many customers, drinkers and non-drinkers, as they also have a wide selection of alcoholic beverages. Cafe Toast Bizan was first opened in 1927 as a Western-style restaurant, and in 1965, the shop was handed over to the second owner, who renovated the cafe as a pure coffee shop. It has been functioning as a "place of relaxation" in the community, where regular customers gather from 8:00 a.m. The coffee is carefully brewed using the old-fashioned drip brewing method and has a soft, rich, yet refreshing taste. The "Whiskey Coffee," an eye-catching item on the menu, will warm you to the core when sipped during the cold winter months. The classic interior of the restaurant has remained unchanged since its renovation in 1979. Listening to the cheeky owner at the bar counter, I feel as if I have stepped back in time. The word "Bizan" printed on the coffee cups is also reminiscent of the times. I heard that his daughter bought that large teddy bear you see as soon as you enter the store. During the open-air, roofless cruise, you can appreciate the city of Tokushima from the river, waving to people strolling in the park and enjoying the view of Mt. Bizan from the water. Sento Early morning activity Shinmachi Onsen has a long history, founded in 1950-1951. A feature of this hot spring is that the water temperature has stayed high (43 to 44 degrees Celsius) since its establishment. It is one of the few places in Tokushima Prefecture that is open early in the morning, so you will be wide awake if you start early and visit here. In addition to the main bathtub, there is a salt bath, a medicated bath, a water bath, an ultrasonic bath, a waterfall shower bath, and a sauna, so take your time and enjoy yourself when you have time. Shinmachi Onsen is such a cute, retro bathhouse with a Showa-era feel and offers a wide variety of baths and is highly satisfying. It opens early in the morning at 6:00 a.m., so you can go there before work or sightseeing. The only thing, though, is that they do not have shampoo, so be sure to bring your own. You should go to a nearby convenience store to buy shampoo and other necessities. There are many coffee shops in the neighborhood that offer breakfast, so why not try the blissful "morning activity" of taking a relaxing bath followed by a delicious breakfast? Activity Ropeway The ropeway connects from the base station at the 5th floor of the Awaodori Festival Hall (Awa Odori Kaikan in Japanese) to the 290-meter-high summit of Mt. Bizan. It takes about 6 minutes one way. Mt. Bizan is the symbol of Tokushima City, as described in Manyoshu, the oldest anthology of Japanese poetry, as "Awa no Yama (Awa's mountain) which look far off in the distance, as long and horizontal as eyebrows...". The Bizan Park observatory at the top of the mountain offers a spectacular night view if you visit at night. On a clear day, you can see the magnificent Yoshino River, Asan Mountains, Awaji Island, and even the far-off Kii Peninsula. Another attraction of the trip is the changing nature of the seasons, such as cherry blossoms and autumn leaves, and the Tokushima city area that you can see through the windows while you glide your way. It's so nice that the ropeway is easily accessible because it's close to the station. You can go to the top of the mountain whenever you feel like it. The panoramic view of Tokushima City from the top of Mt. Bizan is "THE View"! The sight of the majestic Yoshino River is especially breathtaking, reminding us once again that Tokushima is a "water city". It is a bit cold on a sunny winter day, but I recommend getting coffee and bread to take out before going on the ropeway. You can enjoy a picnic at the top of the mountain. The sky is so wide, and the earth is so round...
