Panju is a simple snack that has been loved in Ise since the Meiji period. In order to deliver the famous snack of Ise to customers, Yokocho Yaki Shop created Yokocho panju, made from a savory dough filled with a generous amount of koshian (sweetened red bean paste). The dough is made of wheat grown in Mie Prefecture, and the bean paste is made of red beans from Hokkaido. Sushikyu was established in the Tenpo era of the Edo period, when the first owner Kuzo Morita, opened a sushi restaurant. It later became a cooking inn and also served as an inn for imperial messengers at its most prosperous from the Meiji to early Showa periods. The current building, which retains the appearance of those days, was restored and remodeled in 1989.
