The lake and its surrounding lands are very rich in biodiversity and are ideal for wildlife watching and nature exploration. On the way to the lake from Paraíso in the Province of Barahona, there are many beautiful places beaches, rivers, lagoons, forests, and fauna as well as curious places like the Magnetic Pole and historic places like the Indigenous' Caritas, a cave containing petroglyphs across the walls, faces (caritas) suggesting the presence of Tainos thousands of years ago.
